Christoph Schlingensief, hope and enfant terrible of Germany’s theater scene died August 21st in Berlin. He battled lung cancer for over two years.
The artist directed plays, movied, operas, most renowned the annual Richard Wagner festival in Bayreuth and in Manaus, Brazil. His choices were often controversial and had a strong political message.
Oliver Golloch, Ruhrtriennale Festival spokesman said the 49-year old director died on Saturday, he did not give any further details. Christoph Schlingensief is survived by his wife Aino.
