IL: Don’t miss Kurt Weill’s “Johnny Johnson,” Last Performance July 9

Catch Chicago Folks Operetta’s production of Kurt Weill’s rarely heard musical gem, “Johnny Johnson”! The musical is set in World War I. Lowly American tombstone cutter and unwitting pacifist Johnny Johnson has been persuaded to enlist in the U.S. army both by his sweetheart, Minny Belle Tompkins, and by President Woodrow Wilson’s promise of “a war to end all wars.”

The year 2017 is the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. entry into the First World War. Kurt Weill’s exotic 1936 score is one of his best, and Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green’s clever story is more relevant than ever. This performance has a 14 piece orchestra and some of Chicago’s finest singers!

There are performance dates until July 9. Make sure you don’t miss this musical event of the summer!
