7th Annual Kristkindlmarkt in Peoria, IL

November 19, 2016 by

peoriaKristkindlmarkts or German Christmas Markets are centuries old traditions beginning in the 15th Century. They are typically an outdoor street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. Originally the market was held to bring church-goers together to share homemade Christmas crafts such as nutcrackers, tree ornaments, toys, and more. The Christmas markets have over the year expanded to many other European countries and more recently to the United States.

Experience a bit of Old World Christmas Magic at the 7th Annual Kristkindlmarkt at The Lindenhof, 7601 N. Harker Drive, Peoria, Illinois 61615, (just off of Pioneer Parkway near Enterprise Car Rental). The event is sponsored by the Harmonie of the Peoria German-American Society. Admission is free.

Dates for the event:

Saturday, November 26th, 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, November 27th, 11 am to 5 pm

Saturday, December 10th, 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, December 11th, 11 am to 5 pm

Over 25 area vendors each weekend will be offering a variety of arts and crafts that are perfect for Holiday gift giving. A number of imported items from Germany and Austria will be available, including German smokers and beer steins. Vendors will be both indoors and outdoors. Food and beverages typical of Kristkindlmarkts will also be available for purchase: bratwurst, schnitzel, homemade strudel, glühwein, hot chocolate, Bavarian pretzels, and German beer.

Entertainment will be provided each day featuring the Lindenhof Echoes (alpine horn group), a brass group playing Christmas Carols, accordion players, as well as Christmas Carolers, and more! Santa Claus will also be available beginning at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm each day handing out candy canes to the little ones.

Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable foods to the event as well. These items will be donated to a local food pantry. Please bring cash or checks to the event since some of the vendors and the Lindenhof do not take credit cards.
