Fanny Mendelssohn: A Discussion and Performance

March 25, 2017 by

The Max Kade Institute at USC’s musical spring continues with an evening devoted to Fanny Mendelssohn, composer, pianist and conductor. Join them for a lecture, discussion and performance on Thursday, March 30 at 6 pm.

For the past year, filmmaker Petra Haffter and writer Angela Thompson have been working on a project about Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), researching the life and work of this extraordinary musical genius of the German romantic period. Her compositions would be exceptional for any composer; they are even more so for a woman of her time. Fanny Mendelssohn is the only woman composer, admired conductor and distinguished pianist equal to all male composers of the 19th century.

This concert will also feature concert pianist and professor Violeta Petrova, who will play several of Fanny Mendelssohn’s compositions.

Location: Max Kade Institute, 2714 S. Hoover Street, L.A. CA 90007

Kindly RSVP to kade@usc.edu or call (213) 743-2707.
