IN: Skills Initiative – A Presentation on Vocational Training in Germany

Skills InitiativeThe German Embassy in cooperation with the American Council on Germany and locally with Ivy Tech Community College and The International Center is planning an exciting panel presentation which will illustrate the German model of vocational training.

The panel is part of the Embassy’s “Skills Initiative” and a follow-up to the visit to Indianapolis of the German Ambassador Peter Ammon in July 2013.  This program helps to identify and share information about best practices in sustainable workforce development, in cooperation with German companies investing in the US.

The planned presentation of the Skills Initiative is designed to illustrate this German model of vocational training by bringing its three main stakeholders on stage: the trainee, the company´s trainer, and the educator from the vocational school.

They will tell their personal stories about skills training and talk about why it can also become a successful story for young people and companies in the U.S.

The trainee, trainer, and educator will be accompanied by representatives from the Embassy and the German-American Chamber of Commerce in order to present the dual-track model of German vocational training as a complement to existing vocational training structures in the U.S.  We very much hope that you will be able to be part this exciting event.

The trainee and trainer are from the US-based German chainsaw manufacturer STIHL Inc. of Virginia Beach, VA., the educator will come from Germany.
