LA Debut of Berlin’s Acclaimed Children’s Choir

The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), noted for touring internationally as well as showcasing acclaimed choirs from around the world, presents a free concert featuring the Los Angeles debut of Berlin’s esteemed Children’s Choir of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin State Opera), led by Music Director Vinzenz Weissenburger, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, 7 pm, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. LACC’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson, shares the stage with the German choir with the two choruses performing a range of classical works and folk songs separately and combined. The local appearance of Children’s Choir of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden is part of its first U.S. West Coast tour, which also includes stops in San Diego and San Francisco.

The award-winning Children’s Choir of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden has appeared in the famed Berlin Opera Company’s productions of La Bohème, Un ballo in maschera, Tosca, Turandot, Boris Godunov, The Queen of Spades, Der Rosenkavalier, Carmen and Puss in Boots, among others. The choir also performs with the Berlin Philharmonic, with whom it was recently featured in a new recording of Carmen under the baton of Simon Rattle; presents its own concerts at the State Opera House in Berlin, Germany; and has appeared throughout Germany and toured to Italy, France, and the Baltic states.

Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, founded in 1986 and widely recognized for its artistic excellence, performs with such leading organizations as LA Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and POPS, Calder Quartet and Jacaranda. LACC, recipient of Chorus America’s 2014 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, the nation’s highest choral honor, shares its artistry around the globe, touring to North and South America, Africa, China, Cuba, Australia, Japan, and Europe. Renowned for its exceptional bel canto sound and wide-ranging repertoire, the chorus is the subject of a trilogy of documentaries by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Freida Mock, has performed with John Mayer on NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” and was featured on PBS’s “Great Performances,” BBC Radio and Public Radio International, among other credits.
