music_saluteOne may experience the joy and magic of Vienna’s “Neujahrskonzert” in some of North America’s finest concert halls – from L.A. to New York and Vancouver to Montreal. This unique re-creation of the Viennese original has become a favorite holiday celebration throughout the U.S. and Canada, since its 1995 premiere in Toronto. Now performed almost simultaneously in every major city throughout the continent, the performances feature European maestros, tenors, sopranos and dancers celebrating the uplifting music of Vienna’s ‘Waltz King’. The festive Salute to Vienna series is the only genuine re-creation of the original concert from the ‘City of Dreams’. Marion Glatz, Co-founder of the series, says it best: ‘A New Year’s bouquet of glorious music that goes down like a glass of champagne!’

Of special note is the Spring 2013 concert, taking place at the beautiful WIENER KONZERTHAUS. Salute to Vienna will be performed IN VIENNA on April 25th and will be taped by PBS for a special broadcast that will air over a 3-year period. Internationally-known mezzo-soprano Frederica Von Stade and Academy Award winning actor Maximilian Schell will co-host, along with a star-studded cast including the Vienna Boys Choir, the Strauss Festival Orchestra, Vienna and several renowned singers from the Vienna State Opera. The concert will also feature two champion dancers from the hit TV series “Dancing with the Stars” and its Austrian equivalent “Dancing Stars”. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Salute to Vienna program without the most beloved operetta excerpts from “Die Fledermaus”, “The Merry Widow”, “Land of Smiles” and others, as well as the best selection of famous Strauss waltzes, polkas and other Viennese “musical bon bons”.

  1. I’ve listened to many Viennese symphony concerts on WQED Pittsburgh. They are outstandingly “World Class”! I only wish this concert was coming to perform in Pittsburgh, Pa.
