How about escaping the cold by visiting one of Germany’s numerous tropical glasshouses? With their extraordinary glass edifices, plants and ecosystems, the glasshouses are treasure troves of green.
Potsdam’s Biosphere, one of Germany’s largest glasshouses, features hourly ‘thunderstorms’, a butterfly house, a 14-meter-high tree top walk, and around 20,000 tropical plants. The Tropicarium at the Palmengarten Botanical Gardens in Frankfurt allows to travel through the tropical rainforests and deserts of the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia. Munich’s Botanical Gardens, Hamburg’s Planten un Blomen Park and Stuttgart’s Zoological and Botanical Garden offer equally great escapes from the cold weather.
